Computer Literacy - CIS 1020

Going into CIS 1020, I kept an open mind. After working in Admistration for so long, and having prior experience working in word and excel I thought I would breeze through the course. However, I realized there are always tricks that are forgotten along the way, and some that were never used in the first place. Taking this course helped improve my Office skills in many way. For example, in MS Word, I hadn't used comments and track changes in awhile, and was reminded how to accept & reject track changes and comments, as well as changing those track changes to Final or Marked up. Another way I improved was in the managing source area, and was reminded on how to import sources that were already saved onto my computer into the document. To the right of here, you will find an example of one of the Grader projects we were required to complete in the class, that reflects the improvements I just discussed.

Working in Excel was also helpful in finding new ways to create charts, and graphs. It also had been a long time since I had to creat formulas in an excel spreadsheet, and this course helped teach me how to create forumula's via VLOOKUP, IF and other functions. These functions are extremely useful in the workplace, whether you work in Administration, HR dept, Accounting, etc. I believe knowing how to complete certain forumlas in Excel are a good stepping stone, and something everyone should learn how to do in preperation to entering the business world. To the right of this page, you will find an example of one of the Grader Projects we completed in this course, that showcases charts and graphs.

Our Final Project was to complete a PowerPoint Presentation that showcased the different types of tools we learned to work with in PPT. I enjoyed working on this project the most, because even though I have completed previous PPT presentations, I always felt they lacked in showcasing charts and graphs, as well as sound effects, and or music, and this project was the perfect chance to play around with all the tools we covered in class. Since Yola is unable to download PPT files, I have uploaded my signature assignment to Slideboom, which you can access by clicking the link below.
